Kiteboarding Sunglasses

During the summer months, the UVA/UVB rays, can be extremely powerful and have high UV Index. It is important that we take steps to protect our eyes from these harmful UV rays as they can cause mutliple problems.

UVA and UVB effect your eyes in different ways, if left unprotected.

UVA rays can affect your central vision and can damage the macula ( part of the retina at the back of your eye ).

UVB
This type of UV can affect the front portion of your eyes which is the cornea and lens. This part of the eye absorbs most of the UVB. These are much more harmful than UVA, but still equally should be avioded.

For any watersport we need to ensure we have polarized lens, as the glare from the water is much more reflective and intense. Polarized lens not only reduce glare, but they cut through it enabling you to see past the surface of the water. With a quailty pair of polarized sunglasses you should be able to see the bottom of the ocean on a sunny day.

Normal sunglasses will decrease the intensity of light by the same amount, however Polarized sunglasses will selectively reduce the reflection from the sun coming from the ocean's surface. Again this is why it is important that we use polarized sunglasses when kiteboarding, or at the beach.
